Computer Technician is one of the courses offered in ACLC Roxas and also some other colleges here in Roxas City and Capiz. Why are some students taking up this course? In ACLC the course description of computer technician is Computer System and Network Technology. This program has been designed to equip students the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies in the application of computer system and networking technologies. It provides the basic principles of communication and work standards, and theories and trainings on the use of computers in the design, implementation, and maintenance of network technologies. Students cover all aspects of diagnosing, installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains personal computer systems and maintains, fine tunes, monitors and troubleshoots networks including file servers, workstations, cable, NIC cards, shared resources (printer, hard disks install), network operating system, hubs, switches and routers. Upon completion of this course the students should be able to perform the duties, responsibilities and acquire attitude relevant to the job titles of Computer and Network Administrator, Systems Administrator, LAN/WAN Manager, IT Manager, and Computer Technician. How to be certified as computer technicians? By taking and passing the exam for Computer Hardware Servicing in NC-II. NC-II means National Certificate – 2, this program is under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The Computer Hardware Servicing in NC-II exam is given to those students who graduate from computer technician to be qualified and be certified as computer technicians. The NC-II is also a ticket that will help other people who aspire to work abroad. Last June 30, eight graduates of ACLC Roxas took an Exam for Computer Hardware Servicing in NC-II. And all eight of them passed the two assessment method which is Observation/Demo and Oral/Interview. On the Observation/Demo, they perform PC assembly and disassembly, software installation, and network configuration. Oral/Interview (Question and Answer) portion were the assessor will going to give some questions and they have to answer it correctly. These eight boys went some difficult road before they get what they after, to pass the NC-II exam and to be qualified and certified as Computer Hardware Servicing Technicians. And they didn’t failed the assessor rate them as COMPETENT meaning they are qualified enough to perform there duty as computer technician.
